Small tank, sandy substrate. What looks good behind a thick foreground carpet of dwarf hairgrass? Light is 3 WPG + Hagen CO2.

Thanks -

that's like asking what looks good with blue jeans....beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

check these out for some ideas:

personally, i like the look of rotala indica in a tank with hairgrass, and that's exactly what will happen in my 10 gallon (already have the rotala in there.) anubias barteri 'nana' or lobelia cardinalis would be good broad-leafed contrasts to the thin hairgrass. color wise, you can't go with ludgwigia repens or ludwigia arcuata. hydrocotyle leucocephala would als be a good contrast. for a smaller contrast, try echinodorus tenellus or sagattaria subulata....

I'll guess since you mentioned lighting and stuff that you are basically looking for plant suggestions... There are just too many for me to think about and I only know a few... Personally I am cheap/poor and have some basic low light. So my options are limited but I am quite fond of some of the low light plants like hornwort. I also go for the cheap bulbs at Walmart and those don't look as bad as some people might imagine. I can't offer too much for plant suggestions but personally I would add some driftwood and maybe some java moss or something attached to it. But that's just me... I think just about anything would look good behind what you already have... Hope you get a chance to share some pictures.
