heres my 10 gallon tiger and mollie tank
java moss $0 (grow it myself)
tank $10
lights $154
canister filter $200 (replaced a couple times)
connect 2 tanks with diy bridge $45
substare $15
co2 $100 (ebay)
heater $5 (ebay)

Other than the initial set-up cost...I've really haven't spent a tremendous amount on plants. Most were "gifts" or bargains I got from other aquarists (being a member of an Aquarium Club does have it's advantages).

Though, when I upgrade my lights and go CO2 injection...might have to separate myself from a few more dollars.

average cost for a high light, CO2 injected aquarium is about $10 per gallon of tank size, not including plants or fish.

That's a pretty good rule of thumb malkore. I just did the math and figured I spent roughly $1,600 on my 125 gallon. Perhaps it's over the average because I opted for all Eco-Complete substrate.

For my 10 I spent $30 on substrate, whisper filter $12.00, $45 lighting, $30 CO2, plants around $50(I have ALOT of plants crammed in there), 2 gouramis $8.00, 3 Juli Cories $12.00, 3 amano shrimp $14.00. So roughly $211.00. Ouch. And then ferts also.

For my 90; $30 for tank, $120 for lighting, $250 for CO2 regulator ph monitor diffuser, $85 for CO2 tank, $40 for substrate, $20 for 2 powerheads, $89 for XP3, dont have plants yet, but estimating around $75-100. Fish, I'm thinking of discus which go for about $25-35 for 3 at auction, plus some others but not sure yet. So for this tank I'm around $750.

It hurts when you actually break it down. Dont ask questions like that :D

For my most recent purchase, a 20 gallon long, I spent the following (I already had the stand, air pump, CO2 Natural Plant System, timer power strip and fish):

tank - $26
glass top - $24
light fixture - $44
picture background - $9
driftwood - $18
substrate - $30
sponge filter - $9
plants - $30

overall cost - $185

Breeding your own apistogrammas in their dedicated tank...priceless.

5 Gallon Planted Hex

Tank $32
Stand $51
CP Flourescent Bulb $5
Heater and Thermometer $18
Substrate and Driftwood $8 - Already had some Flourite on hand
Hagen CO2 and Check Valve $24
Coral Peices $1
Flourish Fertilizers $9
Test Kits $20
Scissors (straight and angled) $12 - Already had some other trimming/planting tools on hand
Fish Food $20
Plants $118 - Half of that was just the shipping, OUCH! 8O
Fish, Shrimp, Snail $42

Total $360

Already had some buckets, nets, etc on hand. I've since spent some more on food and test kits, and will be spending some more on Yeast soon. Total cost is approximately $72/Gal! Without the plants, fish and stand it's closer to $30/Gal. So lighting ratios aren't the only thing that break down on small tanks! :D

$118 for 5 gallons?!
Those plants don't grow gold by any chance, do they?

I wish.

Anubias Nana Petite are expensive, but really look good in this size tank. They were most of the actual plant cost.

10g:
Goldfish kit - Petsmart (tank, hood, air pump, themrometer): $50 (maybe?)
Substrate: $10
Lighting: $30
Heater: $10
Plants:
Java ferns: free
Annubias, Melon Sword, misc sword: $4-5
Terra Cotta pots (2): $2
Liquid Fert: $10
Misc Decor: $10
Fish: $20

This was well over a years time also. It started out with no plants and some tetras. It only recently got plants when i started constructing a biotope for my rams.
