Balloon Molly Q

gosh. so many questions. so many threads. i appreciate anyone and everyone that has helped me or will with my Freshwater Fish tank...

so.

balloon Mollies require 1 teaspoon of salt for every 5 gallons of water.

is this neccessary?
will it affect my other fish/plants?

salt can be debated as many keep livebearers w/o any salt and they do fine. Others say it recommended to have some salt in there. Also plants dont like lots of salt AFAIK.

what does the salt do?

i have:
3 clown loach's
4 Galaxy Rasboras
1 German Ram
2 fish i have yet to identify
2 African Dwarf frogs

what will salt do to these guys??

AFAIK= as far as I know

most people will also tell you do Not add salt with amphibians(frogs).

Personally I have Endlers Livebearers now and had Guppies before and I do not use salt and everything seems fine. They breed just like normal, ect..


The only time I used salt was when I 1st got the Guppies, as the LFS had salt in there tank. So I put salt in mine, then over time with PWC's the salt is gone and no issues.
