Live bamboo does not like to be submersed. It will rot (super gross when it rots) and foul your water. Real bamboo just likes its roots in the water. If you can rig a way for the bamboo to just have its roots in the water you can do it but otherwise I would look for other plants.

Could always have the roots in your hob and work it in to the aqua scape that way. Just a thought.
