black tentacles

My java fern has some black tentacle like things growing on it. None of my other plants have anything like it. What is it

Looks like its putting out a plantlet. After a while you can break it off and have a new java fern baby.

They are just roots for a new plantlet.

If i dont mess with them will they just fall off and plant themselves

Many times they will separate. I just tend to leave them alone but many people carefully remove them once there are enough roots and replant them.
