brown something on plants.....

I added a plant from me old rubbish lfs and the plant had some brown stuff on the plants but not much so i was like meah rubbed like 90% of it of and put it in me tank, but today ( this was yesterday i added it) all my plants have this brown stuff on, it can be rubbed with the use of your finger.... anybody no what it could be or is it something from to much light or to little or something to do with the water or its something to do with cycling or.........?

Ps 45 gallon tank 30watt of light, water ermm cycling, light on 4 around 10 hours a day...

sounds like diatoms.....common occurrence in newer tanks, doesn't appear right away but after a few weeks or so. It will go away on its own, it's not harmful, otocinclus catfish love the stuff. Wiping it off won't help make it go away.
