I'm curious how you guys produce different levels in your tanks (tiers?). Some people use dividers, right? I remember seeing someone gluing rocks together to prevent substrate from seeping through, to create depth, but I can't really remember. Was it hot glue? Is the glue from a hot glue gun toxic to a tank? Thanks.

Good grade plastic cutting boards can be cut into sections and sunk into the substrate and be used to help support a slope.
Cyanoacrylate (super glue) can be used as an adhesive. However, I prefer aquarium safe 100% silicon for bonding hardscape.
