Tank Cycling

Ok what exactly do you do when you cycle your tank?

Hello N...

Cycle just means you introduce ammonia into the tank and begin the "nitrogen" cycle. Bacteria grows and feeds on the ammonia (NO) and produce nitrite. A second type of bacteria grows to feed on the nitrite (NO2), that bacteria produces nitrate (NO3). There's no bacteria that feeds on nitrate, so that form of nitrogen needs to be removed through weekly water changes.

That's pretty much it.
