How often should I be doing kno3 to my tank to maintain a 20ppm nitrate level?

So really just test every day to see how many nitrates the tank consumes and dose accordingly to maintain a 20ppm nitrate

Yep that's it. You don't have to test it every day but regular testing will give you an idea of how much to dose each dosing period. It could be once a week even, as long as you aren't bottoming out between doses.

You will eventually develop an idea of how much you need to dose when, so you won't need to test forever.
