When dosing dry ferts and flourish how much of it penetrates the sand and makes it to the roots of plants?

Reason I ask is I never can remember to buy root tabs for my dwarf sags yet they've doubled in size since I started dosing.

Also should I put tabs under microsword? What about bulb types like apongetons?

Almost all aquatic plants are capable of what it is know as "foliar feeding." This means that, not only do they absorb nutrients through their roots, their leaves are also modified for abosorbing nutrients. Thus you don't really need to worry a great deal about the amount of nutrients that get into the soil, as long as your water column contains proper levels. That said, some plants are heavy root feeders and can benefit from a nutrient-rich or fertilizer-supplemented substrate.

Personally, I no longer use root tabs for any of my plants and just concentrate on proper water column fertilization. So far this has worked well for me.
