dumb question: how to plant "bunched" plants

As I am preparing to leap into the world of planted aquaria, I find myself stumped by this question. I notice lots of "bunched" plants (things like anacharis) are sold in 6-8 stem bunches--usually tied together with a rubberband or something of the sort.

When I actually plant them in my tank, do I plant the bunch all together like that? Or do I separate out each individual stem and plant them a half inch or inch apart from one another?

I know that's a very basic question, but...hey, I'm a newbie at this "live plants" stuff.

Separating them is best IMO. It gives the roots room to grow. Take the leaves off the buried portion of the stem also. Otherwise the leaves would rot and possibly caus the stem to rot.

Yup, you'll definitely want to separate them.
