I recently set up my 75 gallon again, and used eco-complete for planted aquariums as my substrate. As I have a R/O unit, I used reconstituted R/O water to fill the tank. From the beginning I had elevated alkalinity and after some searching found that some people have reported a 3 or 4 month elevation of kH with eco-complete. As I had an extra bag, I tested the fluid in the bag with a LaMotte alkalinity test kit. The result? Approximately 130 ppm CaCo3 or @7.28 dkH. I don't know about the substrate, but the fluid will definitely raise your alkalinity readings
