I picked the "Eriocaulon Species Type 3" up last January. I have not seen any info (except from greenchapter where I bought it). Eventually I want to submit this as a profile. But for now I thought I would just put the info I have out there.

It is growing in high light, CO2, and aquasoil. PH about 6.2, and Kh about 1. I have had it in slightly harder water without issue. (<4Kh). I am not sure if it could withstand even harder water. It did grow it in Eco complete. This plant does not like shade, and will melt if shaded.

Propagation: the stem will split every couple inches. These side shoots can be cut off and replanted. If you cut or kill the growing tip, the plant may survive a while, but will not produce any new growth. My particular plant may also be variegated.

Here it is after about 2 weeks in the main tank (ADA soil) (these are the plants that I gave to folks at the June meet)

here it is a few weeks earlier in the nano:

These shots show it as large as I have let it get before clipping:

Right after those shots, it was clipped apart. These 4 plants are the result:

Sweet. Great plants and info Zezmo.

Here is Eriocaulon sp "from Guang Zhou."

Growing in ~2dKH and <6.2pH, the plant is relatively easy (for an Eriocaulon) in AquaSoil, though it likes high light and stable nutrients. Eriocaulon sp "from Guang Zhou's" root structure is at least as big than the plant itself. CO2 mist a few inches above it results in much richer color and larger plant, whereas old leaves browned and blackened despite >40ppm CO2 and efficient diffusors.

Propogation: Plantlets will side shoot from the mother plant, and to propogate one must carefully split them. Many aquarists recommend this be done with a razor blade outside the tank, and that clumisly splitting with fingers easily damages such Eriocaulon.

Sending pods up after blackout. It does not recover well from such algae control: http://members.dslextreme.com/users/ten_softwater/images/eriocaulonpods_060609.jpg

Cool, hard to grow and rare as well. Thanks for sharing. Ain't gonna find those plants at any BA. Beautiful.

Oh, I am in love. That is one beautiful plant Zezmo :) In fact that is simply outstanding and amazing. WOW 8O

Joe sent me a sample of the E. sp. "Guang Zhou" and it is doing marvellously in Aquasoil. I also just got some basic E. cinerum from lowcoaster (shameless plug: best plants going) on Aquabid, but I like the E. sp. "Guang Zhou a lot more. I've tried E. spp. before and they always melted but they seem to thrive in Aquasoil. I'm a beginner when it comes to Eriocaulons so I'll probably be hitting you and Joe up for help soon :)

We need to get some softwater plant trading on AA... :)
