filter change question

i am buying an ac110 for my girlfriends tank to replace her disgusting (rarely cleaned if ever) emperor 400.

how long should i leave the old one on to let the new one get seeded with the beneficial bacteria?

i was thinking about a month. is that long enough?

IMO a month is long enough. I have heard that if there is a flow control on the old filter turn it down so the new filter is taking in most of the water.

Or you could use some filter pad from the old and place it in the new
