Tons of hydrilla in ponds near me, looks nice. I have some in my tanks, not a lot though.

I agree with increasing water current. Make sure there's nothing blocking the flow from the filter though: Some of my floating aponogeton leaves grew in front of the filter and blocked the flow, and my tank's surface water overrun really quickly.
