i'm new to the world of aquaria -- so new that my 75 gal tank should be completely recycled by this weekend sometime -- and have several java ferns. most of them have tons of, i think they're called, adventitious plants on the backs of the leaves.

how long do they need to stay on the parent before harvesting?

how does one harvest?

do you have to sacrifice the parent leaf in order to harvest?

will i be sorry if i plant all the adventitious plants -- because there'll be so many?

let your knowledge flow.

You can just pluck them from the leaves of the mother plant once they start to grow roots. You do not have to sacrifice the leaf. I don't think you'll be sorry - java ferns aren't super fast growers, and if you decide to thin them later it is easy to do.
