I bought 5 ottos last Friday and didn't have a time to observe their behavior with discus. I left Saturday morning and came back home today and the first thing I saw was ottos sucking on the discus. Moving from one discus to the other. Some scales of some discus were missing. It's heartbreaking. I felt really bad for buying the ottos. I took them back. Never again with my discus. :(

Thanks for the info on the otos. That's the kind of information we need to help us all keep our fish healthy. I'll definitely will use that info in the future. Does anyone know how siamese algae eaters fair in a discus tank? I have one in my community tank and I think it occasionally shows aggression.

Now that the white spots are gone, I'm going to upload some pics... :)

I added 8 java fern plants today. Got rid of the subwassertang. Trimmed the ludwigias 2 weeks ago and now they are branching out and looking thicker. I kinda appreciate more the beauty of my plants compare to my fish. Maybe because I can really see then grow. I sit and watch my plants longer than my fish. Is that weird or normal? Anyways, enjoy the pics :D

Just a few pic update. Change the whole left side. Took out the ludwigias and added a bunch of java ferns and star grass. Plus I added a CO2 system and a reactor that I am going to replace.

Thanks!

I'm going to add more java ferns. Maybe 10 more. Lol! Then spread out the star grass.

When I ran it without the HOBs it lowered the pH up to 6. Meaning CO2 is getting dissolved in the water. When I took the HOBs out it caused a cycle. Ammonia was .50ppm in a couple days. I returned one HOB back and did a PWC and it went back to 0ppm ammonia. HOB is still creating too many micro bubbles and the pH won't go any lower than 6.7. So I just turned the CO2 off until I take the HOB out. I'm taking out 1 cartridge a week.

Update: new plants

It's time for some updates. Got rid of most of the ludwigias and got some new plants. Limnophila aromatica from meegosh(thank you :) ), nesaea golden and a madagascar lace. I know that madagascar lace prefers low temperature but I'll give it a try and I might get lucky. I spread out the star grass all over the front of the tank. I added 6 nerite snails (4 zebra and 2 spotted).
