Go for it. I put some dwarf sag in a pot with gravel and soil and it took off outside in my small pond. It survived the first two winters. This last one was pretty bad. Anyhow, the dwarf sag produced many, many plants. Also threw Bacopa caroliniana and AR out there. The Bacopa survived the winter. Algae might be the biggest challenged. However, capping it as per the video should help.
