its whitish grey. Looks like faded see through cotton to be honest
 
Mold, that will usually go away on it's own or you can spot treat it with hydrogen peroxide 3%.
 
It's not harmful and there are reasons like old food or uncured spots on DW. Sometimes there is no apparent reason. If you can remove the DW, take it out, lay paper towels in a sink, lay the DW on them, pour hydrogen peroxide 3% on the DW, wrap the peroxide soaked paper towels on the DW especially where the mold is, let sit 20 minutes, return it to the tank. If you can't remove it then pull up in a syringe 1-3ml of peroxide for every gallon of tank water and slowly squirt the mold. Turn off your filters before treating and leave off for 20 minutes.
 
It is indeed harmless and some fish will eat it. It is actually bacterial IIRC. If you find it unsightly, you can vacuum it off. Should stop showing up it in a few weeks.
