How long do you run your UV sterilizer?

The green water is getting better, but I'm tired of dealing with it. I'm going to be purchasing a 18wt UV sterilizer for my 120gal tank. How long / often should I run it? Does it have to be on 24/7? Or can I run it 1 out of every three days or what?

I use a UV sterilizer, got tired of persistant green water as well. It's been on my tank for about 5 months, never had green water since. At first I ran it 24-7, green water was gone in two days. I now run it with the timer on my lights, on for ten hours. You could probably run it every three days if you want with no problem, I would run it 24-7 till your green water is gone, might take a bit longer on that size tank, mine is only a 20 gallon with a 9 wt turbo twist. They work great, keep your fish nice and healthy as well
