I'm trying to grow green water algae for daphnia in a fish bowl near a sunny window and a lamp. I put a pinch of miracle grow and fish food in old tank water along with grass and leaves. I have a mini heater and an air pump to circulate the bowl. The water has turned a yellowish green is this green water? It has been running for 3 days. Thanks for the help!

If you put alittle of the water in a white cup and when you look into the cup the water is green or green tinted then that is the beginning of green water algae.

Rivercats, the water looks more yellowish than green on styrofoam.

I re did it the way you said to the flakes dissolved causing the water to turn a foggy color and the past two days it has started to turn green/yellow

Just a pinch of everything

The water has turned slightly brown is this infusoria?

How would you like the pic taken? In the bowl or a white cup

Either. One of the tank as well if you can.

I've been looking through infusoria recipes online, and quite a few of them describe a phase where the water is cloudy but brown tinged, eventually clearing up somewhat.

Ok I will in a second, is there anything I can do besides starting over if I do have infusoria instead of gw? Both pics are the same cup one with flash and the other without.

What do you think of using this as a starter culture for gw cultures in water bottles? There is a lot of "gunk" at the bottom so I would want to separate this.

I would probably let this one do its thing for a few more days, then take out some scoops for new bottles and fill that one back up. Congrats on your euglena.

So this is what has happened with my green water :/ not the results I was really hoping for.. Maybe an airpump would help. I didn't want the algae to accumulate at the top.
