Aquarium Advice Freak
Bare with me, I could use your advice!
So I thought these planted tanks were beautiful, and I decided to try and plant my 10 gal.
I started off with a 10 and 15W screw-in CF (I think? They were just GE fluorescent light-bulbs...) and some Anacharis.
I stuck the anacharis into my gravel (~1in deep, too little) about an inch apart from each stem, being sure to snip off dead brown bottoms. They were doing good, but the leaves began to melt (perhaps fish ate a few leaves, too) and soon I was left with long, clear, pale greenish-grey stems, save for a few leaves at the very tops.
I removed all the dead-looking ones, and am left with a few green but leafeless stems of anacharis.
I then bought some moneywart, java moss, and new bulbs. I also planted the moneywort about an inch apart from each seperate stem of it. The moss I tied some to a rock with thread, put a loose cotton mesh over some on another rock, and the rest I tied to a clay grotto type thing.
The moss on the (glazed) ceramic is beginning to turn yellowish and dried looking, is it because it can't cling to the glaze? Also my other java moss just is beginning to look a bit dirtied, nothing too healthy...
The bulbs are GE Soft White 25W Screw-ins. T10 it says? There is no K rating, and it says on back it's somewhat ideal for aquariums, perhaps thats due to the tubular shape.
I notice that perhaps part of the problem is that my 30gal HOB tends to blow plants off their 'feet', I'm constantly having to push them back into the gravel...
In short:
Any advice????
Are these bulbs any good?
Anyone know an approximate wpg on my tank?
Anyone know why my plants (JAVA MOSS?!) are dying?
Do I need more gravel (>1in)?
thank you in advance
