Java Fern and Java Moss
So.. Java fern does better if its tied to something (like driftwood) and java moss does well just planted... correct?
Because I did it backwards (died the java moss to driftwood and planted the fern).. and neither are growing
Any tips on how to handle these guys? How can you get java moss to grow on rock?

Both can be attached to wood or rocks. The moss will grow over the rock while the ferns just shoot upwards.

If you do plant the Java fern make sure to leave the rhizome above the substrate or it is subject to rot, which will kill the plant. It does do best when attached to objects that hold it down without having to bury the roots.

java fern will also anchor onto anything nearby, if you stick it in a crack of a rock or wood, or even onto other plants I had some floating for awhile and it latched pretty strongly onto another plant, had to carefully tear them apart.

Hello.
Um...I've planted soemjava fern. That's not good hey?
The ones that I've placed between rocks are doing fine and growing but the planted ones arn't doing anything. Should I re-potition them?
thanks.

I just stick my java fern in the gravel. I have to cut huge leaves out all the time. Same thing witht the moss. But I do notice that it take awhile for it to start to grow. Give it some time. Mine didn't do anythign for a moth or so and then next thing I noticed it was huge. A lot of factors will determine its growth, but generally plants work on roots before leaves.

Java ferns recieve their nutrients from the water, not the gravel...so they will do much better if tied to driftwood, rocks, etc.

Well Java Fern has roots and does derive a portion of its nutrients from soil. Mine are all planted and do fine (too fine now in fact).
