Ok so ive had this java fern for about a year and in the past three months it has gotten way bigger. Then tiny little java ferns grow on the leaves then black spots appear and turns to holes and eventually i get tiered of it and cut that leaf off. Is this normal? And does anyone know a way to add iron to the tank with common household items.

Do you dose any ferts?? Looks like a nutrient deficiency. Id say possibly potassium. You only really need to dose iron for red plants

Sounds normal to me. The mature leaf starts to die off and when the plants decided its not salvagable it will divert nutrients through the dying leaf to the plantlets that form on the edge of the leaf. Is it the whole plant dying or just a leaf at a time? They are unsightly but if you leave it there you get more plants! If you don't want the new plantlets cut the entire leaf off as soon as it starts decaying and the plant can put those nutrients to new growth.
