I don't see any reason why not. Give it a try. If you are using co2 and ferts I don't see any reason why it would not grow plants even without seeing the fixture.

If you are not convinced try chihiros A series for a cheap light and get the one that fits your tank. They are supposed to be very good lights. Mine is set to arrive in a few days.
