Hi, I'm trying to get stuff together for a 45 gallon planted community tank at my house. I'm currently checking the tank for leaks as I got everything from Craigslist (under gravel filter and hang on back filter all worthless). It came with 2 old ballasts which neither work. They were both old to begin with. Should then make a screen top and put 3 lamps on top using screw cfls? Or should I got out and put money into it and get a LED fixture (10,000K) that has 3 modes (daylight, night, and something else) that is probably used for reefs but I feel if I'm putting money in it and it works mind as well do it? I plan on doing canister filtration, eventually tanked CO2 with low - med light plants primarily.
