I would like to add some more plants to my tank but I'm not sure about my lighting situation. I currently have java fern in it that has done well and made plenty of baby plants, but I'm ready to diversify my aquascape. The tank is a 20 tall that has a 18" fluorescent light fixture. It came with a "day light bulb" the markings on the ballast say: 120 VAC, 60 Hz, 17 w. Is this enough for more than low light plants or do I need to get a new bulb? It's probably time anyway the light has been in there for about 8 months now.

If the java fern is doing fine, you should be able to add more plants. Looks at anubias species and cryptocorynes. Both of these can survive in fairly low light.
