That depends on your plants.

I use API Leaf Zone and Flourish Comprehensive. I dose 1/2 dose of Excel. Tho many use full dose with no ill effect.

What species of Shrimp ?

I have RCS and CRS.

If you want to be cautious you can start small and gradually increase Excel to normal dose.

Back when I had RCS in my tank I would dose with various Seachem fert products, including Excel and never saw any adverse effects in the shrimp.
