Would you guys use lombricompost in a planted tank? What are its pros and cons? Is it true that it goes bad with time and releases methane in the tank?

If you want a dirted tank you need to use an Organic Potting Soil. In the beginning a dirted tank will have gas pockets form as the organics in the soil begin breaking down. You can poke the substrate daily to release them or just let them bubble out on their own. This lasts about 4ish weeks. You also have to use sand, small gravel, or a commercial plant substrate as a cap over the soil.

Is that the same thing as vermicompost, ie, worm poo? I've heard of people using it before as a base layer for planted tanks. It's very possible you might get some composting for the first few weeks/months, so I would be wary about fish, but it might be better long term than just soil. Just make sure it's organic.
