Depends on what kind of cichlids. Well, the type doesn't, but whether you should even waste your time on it depends on the type of fish. As far as what kind of moss, that's really going to be your choice... depends on what kind you like best, and what you're looking to do with it
 
I have south American cichlids ...what's the easiest to grow?
 
java moss is the easiest, in my experience. Not sure how well it would mix with cichlids though...
 
It depends. What kind of light do you have? How long per day will the tank be lit?

Even in perfect conditions, I wouldn't call it a super fast grower. It can be pretty prolific though... but not hard to take care of. It is stock lighting and you aren't planning to do anything else special, it will grow extremely slow.
 
sure. You don't plant it. You have to tie to rocks or driftwood or decor using fishing line or rubber bands or thread.
