Moss tree advice please

Hi, I'm trying to grow a moss tree. I've seen them on aqua scape pictures on the net and think they look great so thought I'd have a go. I've used Christmas moss tied to the bog wood with cotton. It's been on there about a month and seems to attached ok and is growing nicely, I think. I'm just wondering if anyone had any trimming tips for me.
Also has anyone used fruit tree branches in there tanks? I was thinking of trying other moss trees and want one with lots of little branches and have heard that fruit and hawthorn branches are safe to use. Can anyone confirm this.
