native water plants and mosses

im wondering if its ok to harvest native water plants and mosses?? i was thinking of setting up a 5gal. quarantine tank for them so i can watch for any parasites and clean them.. any one ever had luck doing this cause ive read some horror storys about doing this..

I know that I took some what I think is duckweed from a pond and set it in a cup for a few days, then I put it in my betta tank. It's done great. My betta really enjoys swimming up in it, and I've even had to clean it out from time to time. But in water plants that you actually plant... I can't help you much with that lol.
