What is the procedure for planting new plants once you get them from the store.

First, do you need to do a salt bath to kill snails? How does that work?

Second, how exactly do you plant them, i.e. do you just push the roots under the substrate, how far down, do you first have to trim the roots, ets.

Thanks for all the help!

I never dip my plants...certainly don't use salt. Potassium permangenate (you can find this at Sears near humidifiers/water softners) can be used...I don't remember the ratio.
I just look closely for snails, and more importantly little gelatenous globs of snail eggs.

Remove any metal bands used to weight them down. Plant stems individually. If the stems look good and have roots, plant em. If the stems look weak and starting to rot, trim them down, strip off a few leaves, and plant it that way. It'll grow more roots.

Your substrate should be close to 3" deep. Plant the stems about 2" down.
