I just purchased and planted some anacharis and corkscrew val in my 20g high. Not long after they were placed, my ghost shrimp looked like they were eating something at the base of the plants. I don't ever think I read anything about ghost shrimp eating live plants as they are scavengers, so my guess is that they were cleaning up any dead plant material around the base of the plant, correct?

James, I would agree. I never had any trouble with ghost shrimp eating my plants. I doubt they will cause you any trouble.

Ghost shrimp really won't eat much algae though as compared to Species of Neocaridina or amano shrimp. They will eat waste and uneaten flakes that make their way to the bottom though. That includes dead plant matter.
