Hey guys I have started a fresh water tank today 125litres and added 5 plants, I was just wondering if I can re use slate from my old saltwater tank or will it affect the fish I will be shortly adding, I'm going to add 5 cardinal neons to start the cycle going is that too many or to little I know I can't add lots because of the cycle process but I know I need some to start it, any help would be much appreciated thanks

Slate is pretty neutral AFAIK. I would clean it well and soak it in freshwater.

Cardinal Tetras and Neon Tetras (2 different species) are somewhat sensitive fish. Doing a Fish IN Cycle is possible. But can be rough on the fish. Your tank is about 33g. Nice size.

I've cycled using Harlequin Rasboras or Cherry Barbs...to me they are a bit hardier. Plant lots of plants for best results.

What kind of plants ?
What lights?
What substrate?

Search Fish in Cycle I know we have a ton of info on it here.
Most will recommend a Fishless Cycle using Ammonia.
