New to Aquarium Planting

Hi everyone,

First post on this forum and still pretty new to aquatic life but have tried to do my research as necessary. I had inherited a 40 G. tank from family with a Eclipse Natural Daylight F40T10 48" Light. The idea of planting an aquarium is really starting to confuse me with mixed information that I am presented. What do you suggest I use as far as plants go and what other products do I need to make this transition work.

I have these fish (please scold me if I need to seperate some to another tank due to compatibility, even if they are getting along great) :

- 1 Dalmatian Molly
- 1 Powder Blue Dwarf Gourami
- 1 Flame Dawrf Gourami
- 1 Red Wag Platty
- 1 Blood Red Eye Swordtail
- 1 Red Tail Shark
- 2 Ballon Belly Mollies
- 1 Algea Eater

All fish are less than 3 months old so far and seem to be doing great. Any help is much appreciated and also new ideas on fish would be appreciated as well.

One of the gouramis will have to go, they can't be kept in pairs due to aggression.

The algae eater will have to go depending on the species...

If it looks like this it's fine

As for plants, check this list.
