Ever since I took out my HOBs in my tank and there's not much surface agitation, there is a thin film of some sort on the water surface. I'll describe it as if there is an oil spill. I hope its not a problem. Thanks.

bio-film. I've managed to find a sweet spot for my spray bar that doesn't agitate the surface enough to offgas co2, but keeps the biofilm from forming. Nothing to worry about, it just bugs me.

Ok. Thank you. What causes it though?

I've always heard/read that it was from protein and organic waste... no clue on the accuracy of that statement though. I always just accepted it and moved on, though I would be interested in an actual scientific explanation.
