Peat for bottom layer. Can you use the Eheim granules?

Or would you suggest some other form of peat. I know it is expensive, but I have some around from a previous tank.

As long as you're looking to set up a soft-water tank, a fine layer of peat on the bottom layer will work very well. Crypts in particular do well in such conditions.
