plant-filter

I really want some live plants in my aquarium but i have been told that you cannott have plants if your filtration is undergravel filter because it will clog and there isnt enough "poo" to settle for plant growth
Is this true??

Essentially, yes. ugfs are not good anyway, waste builds up under them and you have to break down whole tank every year or so, or you get way too much waste under them for them too work right. Roots will clog it up badly, and create a big mess under there.

I agree with Corv that you really shouldn't use an UGF if you want to plant your tank. Like he said, it will be a mess when the plants start to grow and clog up the plates.

If you do decide to do it, make sure you have at least 4 inches of substrate on top of the plates. That should help keep the roots out of there for a little while.
