I think my black beauty "sand" (iron slags) are too fine and there isn't any oxygen or nutrients (fish poop) getting to the roots of the plants (my cabomba plants are getting soft and snapping, my swords are turning yellow, a few more plants are slowly dying as well). My floating plants and moss and ferns, generally plants that aren't planted in the substrates are doing great though.

Changing my substrate isn't an option for me at the moment, so what should I do now? Dose the substrate with fertilizers or would getting a CO2 system setup help?

What lighting do you have? How long have the plants been in the tank/that substrate?

ya they usually melt when they r acclimating i got some swords and when i first got them they looked all dead what i did is trim the bad leafs and used root tabs and now they look gorgeous and they have triple the leafs they had. so just give it some time
