Just out if curiosity does the activated carbon in the filter media extract liquid fertilizers from the water? If so would it be helpful to turn off the filter for a period if time after dosing the fertilizer?

Are you actively replacing your carbon biweekly? If so, then it will be removing some of the fertilizers, but to what extent (and if we even care) is subject to much debate. If your worried about carbon that's been in your tank for more than two weeks, it's not adsorbing anymore so you don't need to worry about it.
