What is it that makes the roots cling to rocks? Is it the porous-ness of the rock such as with lava rock or can the roots also cling to a smooth river rock? I think mosses don't have roots but same question. Thank in advance.

Well, all I have is river rocks at the moment. I'm gonna start building different rock formation with silicone.

I dont know what makes them "stick" but they will cling very well to smooth rocks given enough time. For Java fern or anubias I usually use some cotton string to attach them to the rock or wood - by the time the string disintegrates they are pretty well stuck. Java moss isn't nearly as "sticky", it will cling well to driftwood but I haven't had much luck getting it to stick to the mostly smooth rocks I have.
