river gravel?

I have a fast moving stream behind my house, and was wondering if I could use the mud/gravel from this stream? if I boiled it? I really like it as its a dark and course. it would go in a small 5gall planted to see how well the plants like it?

As long as they don't effect your Kh I don't see why you couldn't try it.

All of the gravel in my 55 gal planted tank came from the riverbed near my home. It is actually the perfect mix of sand of varying grain sizes and gravel all mixed together. THe plants seem to like it. I just washed it in a wheelbarrow until the water rinsed mostly clear. It never changed the ph of the water and the natural look can't be beat!
