I have had the plants in this picture in my tank for about 2 months now, and in the last 3-4 weeks they started growing root-like structures above the substrate. Not sure if this is something normal that just requires some trimming, or if it is my plants way of saying "hey idiot, you are doing something wrong" :) I think you should be able to see these root-like structures in the picture, I would appreciate any advice.

thanks!

All of my hygros, pennyworts, cabombas do that. a) It enables you to take cuttings of many stem plants, and b) it ensures that, if the plant gets bitten in half by a hungry fish, it can re-root simply enough.

I never thought of that...I guess Im kind of slow, seems so obvious now. I was considering buying a few more plants to fill out the tank, but I guess I dont really need to.

Thanks!
