When can I remove these 'baby plants' from the 'mommy plant'

Edit: the picture is of the baby plants that have grown off the leaves of the mommy plant (the mommy plant is not visible in the picture)

I always wait and let them detach themselves.

How big do they get before they detach themselves? Most of the plants are like 4 inches tall right now.

That Java fern is taking up about 1/4 of my 40 gallon tank! I don't know if they are good enough to try to sell. Do you think I could get like a 1$ a plant?

Sorry to bring up that moss ball again, but I think I found why the moss ball that I had in my 10 gallon aquarium grew a bunch a sting algae off of it.... I think it had too little light. The tank had the standard single bulb T8. Is this a possibility? I love the looks of the moss ball and I kind of what to give it another try. Would a moss ball do ok in my 40 gallon, high light, co2, with pps pro?
