Stronger bulb for marineland fixture?

No. Florescent bulbs are standard wattage based on the diameter and length of the bulb.
 
Yup, unfortunately if you aren't ready to update the fixture, that would be the best option.

There are affordable 24" t5HO fixtures out there... fish need it;lights; food;Sponge.

Just remember that as you increase lighting, you have to balance that with increased fertilization and possibly CO2 supplementation.

Unfortunately, a new fixture is not in my budget right now so I found some cool crypts and anubias to put in my tank instead.
 
That will work! There are lots of interesting low light plants out there... and it definitely makes maintenance and upkeep easier.
