Hey guys what affordable substrate should I buy for what is going to be a planted aquarium? Also does this substrate need to be covered with a gravel or a sand?
Thanks -Zack

Hi Zack,

Affordable depends on what you can afford I suppose. I am using Brightwell aquatics substrate in my tanks with great success.

Is if affordable? That depends on your budget and the size tank you are setting up. Check Dr. Fosters & Smith for Brightwell Aquatics

This is what I am using and I love it. It is similar to ADA aquasoil but cheaper.

I have used other substrates, I like this better.

What particle size do you use?

In my 40b I used M, F and XF. I layered them to build the substrate up. I am going to be using on XF on my ADA 60F build. This all depends on what you want to do with your substrate and what size tank you are setting up.
