Please post the following. Let's use what you can grow and your judgement for whether it is a low-very high light tank. With this in mind, past lighting set-ups are still usefull if you feel confident about the lighting level. If you happen to have >4" substrate or something weird please note it.

Tank volume
Tank dimensions LxDxH
Watts (please break down by lighting type - T12, T8, CF, spiral screw-in CF, etc)
Lighting level (low-very high light)
Notes

Here is an Excel spreadsheet that does Ozz's current article calcs for your for you (lumens/watt for each bulb can be changed in the bulbs book as necessary).

This will help in playing with formulas by using real-life tanks. Please leave this thread as data only and discuss here: http://www.aquariumadvice.com/viewtopic.php?t=72491 Thank you.

30 x 12 x 18
2 x 65w CF
high - very high

Notes: It is a bow front width goes from 11 to 14 in the center. I have not put a plant in yet that didn't grow. Haven't tried anything difficult but I have put in high light plants and they grow well without losing any leaves at the bottom.

5 Gallon Hex
6.25 x 12 (length of a side x height)
10 Watt self ballasted screw-in CF
Low - Med
Notes: Found the area calculation for a hex is =((3*SQRT(3))/2)*(length of a side)^2, which makes it about 101.5 square inches for this 5 Gallon Hex.

2.5 Gallon Standard
12 x 6 x 8
2 x 13 Watt CF

6gal Bowfront (eclipse system 6)

26W CF
Med+ -Grow rotala, L. Repens, Dwarf sag. Cabomba dies on bottom, Pygmy Chain sword hangs on, but doesn't spread

Before: growth very good to begin, plants die or suffer after a month. Lower stems would melt and leaves would fall off, java moss grew very, VERY slow. Anacharis only grew well when floating.
2, 10 gallon
15 watt NO on each
Very low

Now: Will update post with growth observation in the future
2, 10 gallon
1 40 watt GE daylight NO
1 40 watt GE plant/aquarium light NO
even over top of both tanks
Medium light

70 gal bowfront corner (Dimensions are tough!)
48"w X 22"d x 25"h
2x 96W CF 36" in an Orbit fixture (pretty good reflector, but not GREAT)
I would call it medium-high.

At 25", this is a pretty deep tank. The light directly above the large branches of my driftwood casts poorly defined shadows. You can see the shadow area, but there is no sharply defined shadow boundary.

This is a young tank, but I've got Anubias Barteri v. Coffeefolia in the shade, watersprite (Ceratopteris Thalictroides) along the back wall, Red Tiger Lotus (Nymphaea Zenkeri) up front and a few stalks of Anacharis. All are growing like weeds.

75Gal

2 x 32w T8 ODNO 2x (96w T8 Equiv)
2 x 40w T12
1 x 32w T8

High light

Haven't had a problem growing anything including Rotala Nanjenshan (needle leaved), Rotala Magenta grows well. Macranda is not growing all that great.

Horrible reflector (will be building one and documenting it)

fish4all, are you going to use a 4ft shop light, because i was planning to do the same over my 2 10 gallons (1 going to be put to use).

for my curernt tank

10 gallon standard
20x10x12
28 watts spiral screw in cf or 2.8 wpg
medium-low high light

mot medium high, not low high, right in the middle

Just running numbers so far with current forumals. Ommitted self-ballasted screw-in CFLs because I have no clue how to calculate them. Added link to the first post for an Excel spreadsheet that does this for you, please use it moving forward if possible, but if you don't thats okay too. Thank you.

Thank you Travis Simonson, I'm processing your information.
I have sucessfully Added your information to the Database, the Record of this entry is ID# 2 .
If for some reason you have made an error in this entry, please include this Number to ease the correction
Now for some Information from what you've entered.
Your Gallon Aquarium has 38756 Lumens of light over it. Given the Dimensions of 18 x 72 I have calculated The Lumens / Square Inch to be 29.9043. (Or Very High - Extremely High Lighting Levels).

Your approximate Light Level of Extremely High seems to be accurate

Interesting..

I'm just finishing database entry pages. Figured I'ld try out yours since you have such a wide variety of bulbs.

The entry Page can be found Here . I will add a page to view the results as they come in.. For now it get's the information building. I have entered mine, Travis' and Ringfingers 29Gal tank. (You won't know if it's been entered already)

Thank you ringfinger, I'm processing your information.
I have sucessfully Added your information to the Database, the Record of this entry is ID# 3 .
If for some reason you have made an error in this entry, please include this Number to ease the correction.

Now for some Information from what you've entered.

Your Gallon Aquarium has 7 742 Lumens of light over it. Given the Dimensions of 30 x 12 I have calculated The Lumens / Square Inch to be 22.5 (Or High - Very High Lighting Levels).

Your approximate Light Level of High seems to be accurate

The Information I have entered is:
You have 97.5W of Compact Fluorescent Lighting for an Output of 7 742 Lumens.

Just in case you want to know what it put out for your 29Gal.

If there are any questions, feel free to ask before hitting the submit button.

The results will be visible Here

I'll be adding more of a breakdown, but it should show if the theory is accurate.. here's to hoping.

It is updated realtime.

Sweet. Any public place where one can access the raw data for all entries? Will it be added to your results page? Thanks
