Hello AA...

Well, my switch to land plant, planted tanks has taken an interesting course. A few months ago I emersed the rootballs of some land plants into the water of my 5 freshwater tanks in an effort to save time and effort doing the weekly, large water changes. The land plants have done a great job of keeping the tank water pure with very small, weekly water changes. In fact, I change only a few gallons of water a week per tank.

The interesting course is, the aquatic Pennwort is starting to grow through the Chinese Evergreen and Pothos plants. It apparently wants to get to the ambient light coming from several pole lamps I have in the room. (See attached pics).

The fish are providing the nutrients for the plants and the plants in turn keep the water chemistry stable for the fish. I just maintain the HOB filtration and feed the fish and plants a little extra variety of food twice a week.
