I have the AP master test kit but what kit (or testers) do I need in addition to this for a planted tank ?

The kits that you need for aquariums in general include:
Ammonia
Nitrite
Nitrate

The kits that you need for a planted aquarium include:
Nitrate
Phosphate
pH
KH

It may also be helpful to have the following testkit:
GH

Don't waste your money on the following testkits:
Calcium
Iron

thanks, will do - another shopping trip needed LOL

If you have the AP Master Test Kit then all you really need to get extra is KH.

I do not know about yours, but my AP did not come with a PO4 kit.

No, no CO2 tester. CO2 is determined using pH and Kh test results.

Also, for PO4 testing, I ONLY recommend the SeaChem phosphate kit. should run $10. the AP phosphate kit is a little too sketchy on accuracy for my liking.

Yep, I'm with malkore, the Seachem PO4 test kit is the only PO4 to buy. It's quick and easy to read and gives pretty accurate results.

Hello dear ..I appreciate the work you put into this. I don't have an accurate scale to use other described methods, so this is making my day......thanks
